Maintenance may be routine, but it's also vital to the
survival of your machine. Regular oil changes, air filters,
battery maintenance, chain service, suspension adjustment
and tire inflation: the keys to a long life and more money in your pocket.
Oil Change
The average street machine needs an oil change
every 3-5K km. So count at least two changes every riding
season, more often under heavy use. Oil loses its lubricating
qualities and accumulates acids and other contaminants when
used too long, resulting in expensive engine wear and loss
of performance. We use Amsoil
full-synthetic motorcycle oil exclusively - the benefits of
synthetic greatly outweigh the somewhat higher cost over mineral
based oil: significantly reduced friction for reduced wear
and greater power with a much greater resistance to high temperatures
and extended change intervals. (Synthetic should not be used
in engines until after the break-in period is complete.)
Filters
Change oil filters at every other oil change.
A filter can only trap so much dirt - once full and clogged,
it starts to bypass oil so your engine loses all protection.
We only use synthetic nano-fibre filters from Amsoil
and Wix. Paper filter elements have fibres of uneven
size, leaving gaps and uneven filtration. Synthetic filters
use fibres of consistant diameter and weave, allowing them
to trap smaller particles while maintaining a higher rate
