Batteries
Many riders find that they are replacing batteries
once a season - this shouldn't happen. A good lead-acid battery
should last 3-5 years in normal use. Winter storage kills
most batteries, along with poor maintenance and broken charging
systems. The keys to getting good life (and avoiding an inconveniently
dead bike) are basic:
- Keep the battery topped-up/avoid running
it flat
- Have ICC test your charging system to ensure
that the generator and voltage regulator are working properly
- Maintain the correct fluid level with distilled
water.
If you have to replace a battery, it's best
to have it filled and charged by an expert (NOT Canadian Tire
... ) with a 'smart charger'. There are big differences in
battery technology today and I'm pleased to announce that
if you absolutely and completely want to solve your battery
woes, the maintenance-free 'dry cell' Odyssey
battery is now available for most motorcycles, ATV's and watercraft.
The military technology Odyssey offers twice the output of
an ordinary lead-acid battery of comparable size and three
times longer life.
For
early-model bikes with broken charging systems, we retrofit
aniquated OEM regulators and stators with products from Electrosport.
These high-performance units actually increase electrical
power output with 21st century reliability.
